XXXVII Cycle

The PhD in Entrepreneurship and Innovation was born in 2017 thanks to the joint effort of the Department of Management and Quantitative Studies (Parthenope University) and the Department of Economics (University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli). Starting from the XXXVI cycle, the administrative seat of the doctorate is the Parthenope University.

Doctoral topics
The PhD in Entrepreneurship and Innovation deals in a broad sense with all processes related to the birth and development of new companies and the management, in existing companies, of innovation projects. It makes use of the expertise acquired by the two partner departments on the topics covered by the PhD and of a close synergy with the excellence project of the Department of Management and Quantitative Studies and the initiatives implemented by the Department of Economics. The PhD in Entrepreneurship and Innovation is both an international doctorate and an industrial doctorate.

International doctorate
Continuing the internationalization process already started in previous cycles, from the XXXVI cycle, the PhD in Entrepreneurship and Innovation has strengthened its international partnerships by entering into an agreement with the Spanish University Universidad de Castilla la Mancha.

Industrial doctorate
In order to strengthen the relationship between the academic world and the business world on the issues of innovation management and entrepreneurship, the doctorate, starting this year, provides some reserved positions for employees of companies dealing with innovation projects/processes according to the industrial Ph Dmodel.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

The doctorate has several training objectives which are substantiated by activities aimed at developing the following skills in doctoral students: 

  • Ability to understand the dynamics related to the creation and growth of companies, innovation of products, processes and business models, management and organization of innovation processes also related to new technologies, development and adoption of innovative finance tools and a mastery of the associated research methods;
  • Ability to conceive, design, and carry out a research project, in order to solve the real problems
    of enterprises and companies on the basis of the most advanced scientific methodologies;
  • Ability to develop original research that broadens the frontier of knowledge, providing a
    contribution that may merit the rank of scientific publication at national or international level;
  • Ability to critically analyze, evaluate and synthesize new and complex ideas that can be used in the examination of multidimensional phenomena, such as entrepreneurship and innovation;
  • Ability to communicate with the scientific, professional, entrepreneurial and managerial communities as well as with public and private policy makers;
  • Ability to promote, in academic and entrepreneurial contexts, methodological, social or cultural advancement.

The programme of activities includes the acquisition of both theoretical knowledge and appropriate qualitative and quantitative methodologies instrumental to the design and
development of research in the field of economic and social sciences.
The training program includes educational activities carried out in collaboration between the
partner universities on the basis of their respective scientific expertise. The courses are divided into teaching modules.
Each course includes a teacher responsible for the design of the contents and the organization of
the lessons who will define, in a syllabus, the learning expectations, the contents provided in each
module and divided by lesson, the responsibilities of the modules that make up the course, the methods of evaluation of the learners, as well as the readings of support and accompaniment to the training course. The modules will be developed according to didactic settings that favor the active learning of the PhD students. For this purpose, the didactic programming will be based on
innovative approaches and techniques such as: participatory lessons, flipped learning, Teal method, simulations, teamwork, project work, virtual learning environment, gamification,
presentations and exhibitions in the classroom, mentoring.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

The job opportunities of the doctorate point in several directions:

  • Managerial career in innovative companies or in companies engaged in the management of technological development projects;
  • Business and management consulting on innovation projects;
  • Career in public or private entities involved in the promotion and support of entrepreneurship and in services for the creation and development of start-ups (development agencies, incubators, business accelerators);
  • Participation in the creation of innovative start-ups;
  • Scientific/academic career in structures or departments, at national and international level, dealing with entrepreneurship and innovation. During the training period, a series of accompanying actions are foreseen, carried out in close connection with entrepreneurs, managers, consultants and researchers, in order to:
  • Facilitate the approach of PhD students to subsequent job opportunities;
  • Direct the learning processes towards the development of the knowledge and skills required in the various fields of employment.
