Over the last few years, the threats about climate change have dramatically increased because of the sharp intensification of the frequency and impact of natural catastrophes across the globe. While the politicians in many countries have proclaimed a “climate emergency”, financial markets’ participants and financial regulators are gaining awareness about the role they can play in stopping global warming and the effects that climate change may have on the stability of the financial sector.

Against this backdrop, the goal of this conference is to contribute to the literature on environmental topics related to the functioning of financial systems and corporate governance. The aim is the collection of both qualitative and quantitative studies that analyze the interaction between global warming, financial institutions and their relationships with firms and regulators. In particular, we would like to encourage academics, from different disciplines, to provide theoretical contributions and empirical evidence that document the phenomenon under investigation but also provide new insights and pioneering results.
This conference is organized in collaboration with the European Commission – Joint Research Centre
This conference will stimulate the discussion about the bidirectional nature of the relationship between climate change and finance. Specifically, the aim of this conference is to encouraging novel research about the following main, but non-exclusive, topics:
• Financial system’s characteristics and carbon emissions across the globe
• Estimating the impact of central banks investment on global warming
• The impact of climate change on the corporate governance practices
• The impact of ESG factors on the stability of the global financial system
• Global warming and financial institutions
• Fintech for climate change

Is it possible to combine the needs of financial development with those dictated by sustainability and equity?
This is what was discussed during the 1st Conference in Sustainable Banking & Finance CSBF 2023, organized in our Department.
During the event, several topics were analysed, ranging from the intersections between environmental and economic issues, the analysis of ESG objectives and the greater involvement of women in decision-making processes.
The Conference also hosted the talk by Anthony Saunders, John M. Schiff Professor of Finance NYU Stern School of Business.
A truly important opportunity for discussion on a topic – that of sustainable and fair financial development – that is increasingly relevant.
